Melody, your emphasis on perception really resonated with me. Living with cerebral palsy, I have sometimes viewed myself through the lens of my physical limitations or through how I imagined others saw me. Those perceptions affected my confidence and caused me to overlook the gifts and purpose God had placed within me. I appreciate your reminder that meaningful change is not about forced positivity or becoming someone different. It begins with allowing God’s truth to correct the distorted ways we see ourselves, others, and even Him. Romans 12:2 is such a fitting foundation. Renewing our minds requires humility and honest self examination, but it also brings freedom to live as the people God created us to be.

Hi Ally, I can totally understand why you’ve viewed yourself through that lens. We all have perceptions that are skewed because of our experiences and inherited beliefs / expectations, but physical limitations can be some of the hardest to grapple with mentally because it’s visible to others and a daily challenge to overcome that impacts so many other areas of your life.

Every situation in life has a balance of benefits and drawbacks and being able to see that takes some practice and can be challenging, but it’s so worth it because then you gain the perspective of seeing challenges as ON the way vs IN the way of growth into who God made you to be.

You can absolutely turn your cerebral palsy into a super power because it gives you such a unique perspective of things that I don’t have, and people can benefit from what you have to share!

I’m glad you found some inspiration in my article, so here’s a bit more (way beyond what I do with clients 😉). I don’t know if you watch the Chosen or not, but this is a powerful scene. The disciple Jesus is talking with is little James and the actor has cerebral palsy. While this is an imagined conversation that isn’t directly in the Bible, it is definitely consistent with Scripture and I hope this brings you encouragement that while you are called for great thing in this lifetime, there’s even more blessing coming to you. https://youtu.be/KZDvcEkjthA?is=-qt_9H_MY-PmrhCj

This is an important topic you covered. Perhaps purpose can be found in one’s values.

I think so. It’s been my experience that those are the overlooked clues that show us what God put on our hearts to do based on how He uniquely created each one of us. We’ll naturally excel and feel fulfilled by the things we’re intrinsically driven to do, but too often that information has been clouded by all of the external factors in our lives.

I agree!

This was a great read! Perception work is quiet but it changes everything.
